Type of Material
Lists material types used in Search Limits, Titles Lists, and individual record displays, with cross-references.
- Book, Journal Issue, Conference Proceedings
- HLAS treats full journal issues as books (monographs). HLAS also includes records for individual articles within journal issues, chapters within books, and papers within conference proceedings.
Type: am (MARC leader 06=a (for Language material) and leader 07=m (for monograph)) - Journal Article
- HLAS includes records for selected individual journal articles. In cases where HLAS has also indexed the full journal issue, a link to that issue will be provided in the article record.
Type: ab (MARC leader 06=a (for Language material) and leader 07=b (for serial component part)) - Book Chapter, Conference Paper
- HLAS includes records for selected book chapters and conference papers. If HLAS has also indexed the entire book or conference proceedings, a link to the book record will be provided. If only portions of a book pertain to Latin America, HLAS indexes the appropriate chapters and conference papers.
Type: aa (MARC leader 06=a (for Language material) and leader 07=a (for monographic component part)) - Electronic Resource
- HLAS includes records for websites, online films and videos, CD-ROMs (sometimes called computer laser optical discs), and other computer files.
Type: m? (MARC leader 06=m (for Computer file) and any valid leader 07 value) - Map, Atlas
- HLAS volumes 29 (published in 1967) through 49 (published in 1989) include a section on Maps and Cartography. In volumes 1 (published in 1936) through 28 (published in 1966), maps and atlases were included in the Geography chapter. Today, HLAS continues to include a chapter on Geography where citations for atlases may be found. HLAS no longer indexes maps.
Type: e? (MARC leader 06=e (for Cartographic material) and any valid leader 07 value)
