• Three stimulating interdisciplinary essays on the peasant economy in the Cusco area: 1) Mayer and Glave carefully measure costs and profits associated with potato cultivation, thereby demonstrating rationality within which peasant producers operate; 2) Glave examines sharecropping arrangements among peasants in post-agrarian reform era; and 3) Brush and Taylor provide empirical evidence of a drop in biological diversity resulting from introduction of new varieties of potatoes.
